Ministry of Transportation Mulls Water Taxi Procurement at Ngurah Rai Aiport

Foreign and domestic tourist visits to the Island of the Gods as a world destination continue to increase. The continued increase in visitors to Bali also contributes to the density of traffic flow at several points, resulting in congestion.

Congestion in Bali is already a crisis, so in the high season, it can have a big impact such as the hours-long traffic jam in Canggu during the 2024 New Year holiday.

To unravel congestion, the central and regional governments continue to improve and improve transportation facilities. One of them is sea transportation through the Water Taxi service.

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is designing a water taxi at Ngurah Rai Airport, Badung, Bali. The Ministry of Transportation uploaded this on its official social media account.

“One of the easiest ways, besides land routes, is the sea route through the water taxi service,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi in his statement on the @kemenhub151 Instagram account.

For this reason, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has asked the Director General of Sea Transportation to review this water taxi service from Ngurah Rai Airport directly to Sanur, Seminyak, Kuta, and Nusa Penida.

The water taxi will be based at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Airplane passengers can take advantage of the sea taxi from the airport to the coast of Sanur, Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa, and Nusa Penida.

The taxi looks like a white motorboat. Dudy claims that the distance travelled to the place by sea taxi will be shorter.

“This route is shorter than what has been done so far, for example, when tourists going to Nusa Penida have to cross by speed boat from Sanur Harbour,” said Dudy.

However, Dudy did not provide information on the water taxi’s launch date. The service discourse is still being studied.

Previously, some tourists had also used jukungs on the Canggu – Uluwatu route, namely to Padang-Padang Beach. The sea fleet developed by a ticket company called Go Boat provides crossing services between sea tourism objects in Bali.
