Jakarnaval is Back With Intellectual Property Theme

Share:

August 12, 2022 – Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Disparekraf) has once again held Jakarnaval, held on Sunday, August 14, 2022, in E-Prix International Circuit, Ancol, North Jakarta. Head of DKI Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Andhika Permata has set up this year’s Jakarnaval theme as “Intellectual Property for Indonesia.”

This theme was held to introduce the Intellectual Property (IP) of Jakarta’s youths embodied in works of art.

“This is a part of the creative intellectual property of Jakarta’s youths, presented for the country and to the world,” said Permata at E-Prix International Circuit, Ancol, North Jakarta on Thursday (11/8).

According to Permata, it’s what sets the 2022 Jakarnaval apart from the previous years. Later on, Indonesia’s legendary characters such as Buto Ijo to Bawang Merah Bawang Putih will be shown.

“What sets this year’s parade apart from the previous carnival is that we’re upholding Jakarta’s youths’ creativity, by displaying Indonesia’s legends,” he explained, “there’s Buto Ijo, Rama Shinta, Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah but with a modern twist.”

Furthermore, Permata hopes to raise the original IP made by creative young people in Jakarta through this year’s Jakarnaval theme. So far, creative IPs that are quite well-known are made by foreign countries.

“Indonesia IP that is made by Indonesia’s youths that are currently here in Jakarta are cooler. So, thus why we’re showing off Indonesia’s intellectual property for the world through this [Jakarnaval],” said Permata.

Jakarnaval is back once again after two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The venue for the carnival will be the E-Prix International Circuit, Ancol, North Jakarta. According to Permata, the circuit is chosen due to its being iconic and Jakarta’s pride.

“This place has been iconic since there have been international events held here. Jakarnaval is a prominent event of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government since 1999,” he said.

This festival is intended as a form of appreciation from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) to creative economy activists and creative communities in DKI Jakarta. There will be tons of shows in Jakarnaval with parades, musical dramas, marching bands, and a special performance from the cultural arts enthusiast community in Jakarta. Other than that, there will be some artists’ performances such as Armada Band, Lyodra, and Juicy Luicy.
