The Directorate General of Immigration has scheduled the deportation of 13 Japanese nationals linked to an online fraud network operating in Sentul City, Bogor Regency, West Java. The group is suspected of targeting Japanese citizens through organised scams.
Arief Eka Riyanto, Head of the Sub-Directorate of Supervision at the Directorate General of Immigration, confirmed the plan. “The 13 Japanese nationals involved in the scam in Bogor will be deported on the 15th of this month (April),” he said in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Authorities stated that the individuals were part of a coordinated operation. The case forms part of wider immigration enforcement efforts against foreign nationals who violate regulations while in Indonesia.
Investigation and Modus Operandi
The case was uncovered by the Bogor Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office on March 2, 2026, in Babakan Madang District. Officers identified the group as part of a structured network operating in the area.
According to immigration officials, the suspects used digital platforms to carry out the fraud. They allegedly posed as Japanese police officers or representatives of telecommunications service providers. The approach was designed to pressure victims into complying with their demands.
Victims were contacted through the LINE application and directed to a fake website. The website displayed a fabricated arrest warrant. Victims were then instructed to transfer large sums of money.
Immigration data showed that one of the suspects entered Indonesia using a visa on arrival. The remaining 12 individuals were found to have misused pre-investment visit visas, classified under index D12.
Officials did not disclose further operational details but confirmed that the investigation focused on immigration violations and coordination with relevant authorities.

Coordination and Broader Enforcement Efforts
The Directorate General of Immigration stated that the deportation process will be carried out under close supervision. Officers will coordinate with Japanese authorities to ensure proper procedures are followed.
Arief outlined the process. “Their return process was escorted by immigration officers and accompanied by Japanese immigration officers,” he said.
In addition to administrative action, immigration authorities stated that they aim to ensure transparency throughout the deportation process.
Separately, the Directorate General of Immigration recently concluded Operation Wirawaspada 2026, conducted from April 7 to April 11. During the operation, 346 foreign nationals from several countries, including China, Pakistan, and Nigeria, were apprehended for immigration violations.
Officials said that checks on the 13 Japanese nationals are still ongoing. Further administrative measures will be determined following the completion of these assessments.
