Foreigners Required to Pay USD 10 to Enter Bali Starting in 2024

Bali’s governor, Wayan Koster, said that starting in 2024, visitors from outside the country or foreigners will be required to pay an IDR150,000 (USD 10) admission charge. The Bali Provincial Government intends to collect this fee online or through e-payment systems to increase tourist earnings in the region.

“We have set the fee at IDR 150,000 for one visit to Bali for foreigners to pay, specifying the amount in Indonesian rupiah to avoid following the fluctuating dollar exchange rate,” the governor stated, outlining the strategy to put this policy into practise.

Koster disclosed this information during a meeting on the 12th of July, 2023, at the Bali Regional Representative Council (DPRD) headquarters.

The charge for international visitors complies with the Province of Bali’s newly passed Law Number 15 of 2023. This legislation allows the Provincial Government to impose fees on foreign visitors to Bali following Regional Regulations.

Koster said that visitors from other countries would have to pay the required fee when they arrived at the approved entry ports, which included I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. The cash raised will go towards the Bali Provincial Government’s local revenue (PAD), which is set aside exclusively for the construction of tourism infrastructure on the renowned Island of the Gods.

Koster emphasised that “these funds will be managed by the appropriate regional authorities in a planned, targeted, transparent, and accountable manner.”

Koster believes that this new policy will greatly help Bali’s tourism as well as keep the unruly and misbehaving tourists away. By charging a fee to enter Bali, the officials are hoping that those who come to the Island will be high-quality tourists and not cheap ones who wouldn’t help the region’s economic growth in any way, shape, or form.
