An argument between a foreign woman and a local woman, who is a merchant at Kuta Beach, Badung, went viral on social media. Initially, it was narrated that the foreign woman was the owner of a surf rental in Kuta, but this was denied.
Information obtained by detikBali at the location revealed that the two women quarrelled over a trivial matter, namely, shorts hanging in the surfboard storage area.
“The problem of putting shorts there (surfboard storage). Balinese people don’t like that,” said Stepen, one of the surf coaches, as reported by DetikBali.
From the video seen on Instagram, the foreign woman can be seen speaking in a loud tone. She warned the merchant’s mother not to touch her goods in the surfboard storage area. The foreign woman also yelled at the woman to be quiet.

The local woman replied to the foreign woman’s words by telling her to leave Kuta Beach. The woman looked relaxed while sitting and did not move from her chair. Her colleague was heard from afar asking her to respond to the foreigner by standing up.
“Once again, touch my stuff, you get out. Shut up,” the foreign woman in the video said repeatedly.
Stepen said the quarrel occurred on Monday, 12 May 2025, at around 6 p.m. According to the information he received from traders and other fellow surf coaches, the quarrel was triggered by a pair of shorts hanging in the surfboard storage area.
The shorts belonged to a Russian woman named Natalia, who was the wife of one of his colleagues. He did not know why Natalia hung her stuff in the surfboard storage area. The fight then happened.
“So, my friend’s wife put her pants there. Well, Balinese people don’t like pants hanging there,” Stepen said.
Viral Dispute at Kuta Beach
Later, in a photo, a smile appeared on the face of the foreign woman when she shook hands with a woman trader at Kuta Beach, Badung, on Tuesday, 13 May 2025. The meeting signalled the end of the dispute between the two.
They promised not to cause trouble or commotion. The agreement between the foreign national woman and the merchant woman was witnessed by officers who are daily on guard at Kuta Beach.
The meeting was a mediation effort after the two women were involved in an argument over pants at Kuta Beach, Badung, Bali, Monday (12/5/2025), which went viral on social media. The task force (satgas) on the beach intervened to mediate the problem.
The local woman and the foreign woman agreed to peace. However, the Kuta Traditional Village prohibited them from doing activities on the beach for two weeks. In particular, sanctions were given to those who do business or sell on the beach.
“Yes, we have mediated. They have shaken hands. But we ordered to impose sanctions. We give a two-week sanction. Both parties are not allowed to (do activities) on Kuta Beach,” said Bendesa Adat Kuta, I Komang Alit Ardana.
Ardana said that the local woman was a trader at Kuta Beach. Meanwhile, the foreign woman is the girlfriend of an employee of a surfboard business. The business is also owned by local Balinese.
According to Ardana, the merchant’s mother had previously been involved in several quarrels with the same person, also over the same problem. The foreigner had been reprimanded several times for not hanging her pants up, but was allegedly ignored.
“Because if you are Balinese, ethically you can’t dry your pants high up. Judging from the video, the pants were wet. They are next to each other. This time it just went viral,” he said.
Ardana emphasised that he would continue to supervise Kuta Beach. He does not want any commotion at that location because it will damage the image of tourism.
