Ferry Fares from Java to Bali Will Increase up to 5% Starting in August 2023

Ferry customers with crossing routes from Ketapang, Banyuwangi – Gilimanuk, Bali must be prepared to pay more because the ferry fares will increase starting from the 3rd of August, 2023. The increase in ferry fares is planned to reach around 5.93% from the previous fares. Apart from the Java-Bali route, the tariff increase will also apply to 29 other ferry lines in Indonesia.

One of the reasons for the increase in ferry crossing rates is the impact of rising fuel prices. Apart from that, the soaring price of ship spare parts is also one of the reasons. Since the fuel price went up, operational and maintenance costs for ferries have skyrocketed by 40-50 percent.

Implementing this new tariff means pedestrians crossing from Java to Bali or vice versa will be charged a ticket for IDR 10,600. Previously, the ticket price for the ferry crossing from Java to Bali was IDR 9,650 per person. Meanwhile, private vehicles rose from IDR 199,850 to IDR 213,400. For medium-sized trucks, it will increase from IDR 392,000 to IDR 420,400.

“This tariff adjustment conforms to Minister of Transportation Decree No. 61 of 2023. This adjustment targets sea lanes crossing between provinces or across countries,” said PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin in a press release on Wednesday, the 26th of July.

This ferry tariff adjustment is claimed to be in the context of improving ferry transportation services, shipping safety, and security. Also, maintaining the sustainability of the ferry transportation industry and increasing the business competitive aspect of sea transportation modes compared to other modes of transportation.

“This ferry tariff adjustment is of course followed by an increase in excellent service,” explained Arifin.

The Ministry of Transportation hopes that the Regional Transportation Management Office (BPTD) can supervise this new ferry tariff adjustment in their respective regions. Thus, implementing this new tariff can run smoothly and under control.
