Cardi B Listens to Indonesian Children’s Songs During Live Stream, Clips Go Viral

Share:

American rapper Cardi B has drawn attention online after playing Indonesian children’s songs during a recent live broadcast. Clips from the session quickly circulated across social media, showing the artist listening to “Pok Ame Ame” and “Cit Cit Cuit”.

In the video, the 33-year-old appears relaxed as she eats and sways to the rhythm of “Pok Ame Ame”. She follows parts of the melody and occasionally attempts to sing along, despite not understanding the lyrics.

During the stream, she asked viewers about the language of the song. “Does anyone know what language this is? I don’t know what language this is,” she said.

She also mentioned that the song was not originally her choice. According to her, the track was played because her child enjoys listening to it. The child’s voice can be heard in the background, following parts of the lyrics, although they are not visible on camera.

At one point, Cardi B imitates a gesture commonly associated with the song. She covers her face during a “peek-a-boo” moment, matching the rhythm of the lyrics. The brief interaction added to the clip’s appeal and contributed to its spread online.

After “Pok Ame Ame”, the playlist continued with another Indonesian children’s song, “Cit Cit Cuit”. Cardi B remained engaged, lightly dancing along as the music played in the background.

Online Reactions and Background of the Songs

The clips quickly gained traction, with many social media users sharing their reactions in the comments section. Some expressed surprise at seeing Indonesian songs reach an international audience, while others focused on Cardi B’s interaction with the music.

She even memorised the peek-a-boo moves,” wrote one user.

It really feels like we’re neighbours,” another netizen commented.

It seems like Cardi B listens to this song so often that she has memorised the peek-a-boo,” said another netizen.

The song “Pok Ame Ame” has a long history in Indonesian popular culture. It was written by Koes Ploes and first performed by Chicha Koeswoyo.

Meanwhile, “Cit Cit Cuit” is known for its playful theme, inspired by the sounds of birds and animals.

This is not the first time Cardi B has caught the attention of Indonesian audiences. In 2020, she shared a series of Instagram Stories featuring Indonesian dishes. The posts included meals such as instant noodles with eggs, pastels, spring rolls and fried noodles.

Her recent live stream has once again sparked discussion among Indonesian netizens, particularly due to the unexpected appearance of local children’s songs in an international context.
