Capital Move: Jakarta to Relocate to Kalimantan in June

The move of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to IKN, Kalimantan, will be done soon.

DKI Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono said the Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI) will soon change to the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ). Heru said the capital will move to IKN (Capital of the Archipelago) between June and July.

Heru conveyed this when opening the Crisis Management Conference (CMC) 2024. Heru initially welcomed the CMC 2024 participants.

“Welcome to DKI Jakarta, which will soon change its name to Special Region of Jakarta, and the capital will move to the capital city of Kalimantan in just a few months,” Heru said, as reported by Detik.

Heru said Jakarta will no longer be the capital city. The capital will move to IKN no later than June-July.

“Ladies and gentlemen are probably the last guests that we call welcome to the capital city of DKI Jakarta, and this sentence may be the last sentence; no later than June, July, and so on, the capital city will move to IKN Kalimantan,” he said.

According to Heru, there will be a ceremonial activity in Jakarta, namely, the release of the duplicate proclamation flag from the Jakarta Palace to IKN.

Heru admitted that with a series of activities, the government is serious about moving the capital to IKN. The first activity began on August 1, 2024, namely dhikr (zikir) activities with several state officials.

Then, the next event will be on August 14, August 15, August 16, and August 17, and the peak will be on August 18. The President will inaugurate the Mosque at IKN.

Heru admitted that with a series of activities, the government is serious about moving the capital to IKN.

Who are the government officials who will move to IKN first?

Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono confirmed that four ministers will move to IKN first. They are the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto; the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto; the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy; and the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

“The first agencies to move to IKN are the presidential apparatus and four Coordinating Ministers. The presidential apparatus is the state secretary, cabinet secretary, presidential staff office, and so on,” Susi told Kumparan.

Susi explained that the process of moving employees of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs is still awaiting instructions from the President and the Ministry of PUPR.
