Tragedy struck at Pasut Beach, Tibubiu Village, in the Kerambitan District of Tabanan, Bali, when an Australian tourist named Jacob drowned while swimming. Jacob, who was on his honeymoon with his wife, was swept away by strong ocean currents despite efforts from local residents and authorities to save him.

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm local time. Eyewitnesses reported that Jacob and his wife were swimming when they were caught by a sudden, powerful current.

Jacob was seen waving for help as large waves dragged him further out to sea, making any rescue attempts extremely challenging.

Local resident and Tabanan Regional House of Representatives member, I Ketut Arsana Yasa, was one of the first to respond.

“My son informed me about the situation, and I immediately rushed to the beach,” Arsana explained, as reported by Detiknews.

Using a small fishing boat (jukung), Arsana braved the rough sea to reach Jacob.

“The waves were huge, and my boat was nearly overturned several times, but we managed to retrieve him,” Arsana recounted.

The Australian tourist was eventually brought back to shore with assistance from locals. By the time he was on land, Jacob’s condition was critical, and he fainted shortly thereafter.

He was promptly transported to Tabanan Regional Hospital in a vehicle borrowed from a beach visitor. Tragically, despite the medical team’s efforts, Jacob could not be revived.

Head of the Tabanan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), I Nyoman Sri Nadha Giri, confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the victim’s family. He also issued a safety reminder, urging both residents and tourists to exercise caution at Pasut Beach due to its strong currents and high waves.

“The currents at Pasut Beach are very dangerous. We strongly advise everyone to prioritise safety when visiting,” Sri Nadha Giri said.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the unpredictable and perilous nature of the ocean, particularly at beaches with strong currents.
