Argentinian Media Reveals Reasons for Messi’s Alleged Cancellation to Indonesia

According to Argentina’s local media, Lionel Messi is rumoured to have skipped Indonesia on Argentina’s friendly match tour since he wanted time off before joining Inter Miami. Argentina will take on a friendly match against Indonesia without Messi, who needs a break before joining Inter Miami, according to a local Argentine media site Vermouth Deportivo.

Argentina will initially play against Australia; after that, they won’t have Messi present in their next match since Messi reportedly needs a break before joining Inter Miami, his new team.

“The Albiceleste will begin planning to work for 2026 World Cup Qualifiers after this friendly match tour,” according to Vermouth Deportivo’s report from Sunday, the 11th of June, 2023.

The FIFA Matchday in June 2023 will include two test matches for Argentina. The team will first face Australia in China on the 15th of June, 2023, before the game against Indonesia.

Lionel Scaloni reportedly has a strategy to distribute playing time among his players despite having two tight schedules. According to reports, Scaloni will start the top players, including Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Di Maria, and other Argentina national team members, against Australia in Beijing.

Meanwhile, when Argentina face Indonesia, Scaloni will rotate by fielding players who have yet to play against Australia or young Argentine players.

There is even a lot of news and rumours circulating that Lionel Messi will not be playing for Argentina against Indonesia at the Bung Karno Main Stadium on the 19th of June.

Apart from giving rest to the leading players, such as Messi, who just finished competing in Europe, the rotation also aims to see the abilities of players who have just joined the Argentine team.

The reason is that after June’s FIFA Matchday, Argentina will face 2026 World Cup qualifiers starting in September.
