The Denpasar Immigration Office has just deported a foreign Russian citizen with the initials AT. The reason for AT’s deportation was that this Russian man often got drunk and randomly attacked people in the Ubud tourist area, Gianyar Regency, Bali.

“This Russian man was then detained at the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center,” said the Head of the Denpasar Detention Center Babay Baenullah in Denpasar, Tuesday, 4th of July 2023.

The Russian man with the initial AT was arrested based on a public report on Thursday, the 25th of May 2023, when the 35-year-old he was asleep on the sidewalk of Jalan Peliatan, Ubud. He was then detained at the Ubud Police Office, and based on reports, AT often causes trouble in the Ubud area.

The Ubud Police then coordinated with Denpasar Immigration for follow-up. However, AT cannot be immediately deported to his country due to administrative problems. This Russian man has languished in the Denpasar detention centre since Friday, the 26th of June, 2023. As a result of further investigations by the immigration and police, AT admitted that he had lost his passport.

AT admitted that he had lived in Indonesia for four years; AT entered Indonesia using an investor visa’s limited stay permit facility. However, what kind of business and investment he is doing in Indonesia is unclear.

For this reason, the Denpasar Detention Center is coordinating with the Russian Embassy in Jakarta to issue travel documents for its citizens. “After being detained for 39 days and our staff coordinated intensely with the Russian Embassy in issuing his travel documents, AT was finally able to be deported to his home country at his own expense,” said the Denpasar detention centre.

After completing the travel documents and costs for returning to Russia, AT was deported through I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on the 4th of July, 2023. Apart from being deported, he was also on the list of denial of entry to Indonesia according to Law Number 6 of 2011, concerning Immigration.
