A Canadian citizen recently reported that his villa employee, Toni Setiawan (39), was suspected of embezzling IDR 93 million from car sales. “The car that was embezzled was a Mitsubishi Pajero,” said the Canadian citizenl named Michael Brent Chesney (60).
Michael’s employee Toni has only worked for Villa Seraya for about three weeks. Toni was immediately entrusted by Michael to serve as marketing director and was allowed to stay at Michael’s villa.
Despite the time Toni stayed at Michael’s villa, in a short time, Toni managed to bring several tourists to stay at the villa.
“He’s a very good person, so I really trust him, I appoint him to become a marketing director because his English skills are very good,” said Michael on Sunday, the 6th of August, 2023.
About a week ago, Michael decided to sell his Mitsubishi Pajero, and the car sold for IDR 93 million. However, the buyer requested that the car must be delivered to Denpasar.
Michael finally went with Toni to deliver the car to the buyer in Denpasar. After meeting in Denpasar, the buyer said he would transfer the money, but as a Canadian citizen Michael did not have a local bank account number, so he asked the buyer to transfer the money to Toni’s account instead.
“After making the transaction, we returned to my villa in Karangasem. I’ve had withdrawn IDR 10 million to have a party at the villa. So the remaining IDR 83 million was still in Toni’s account,” said Michael.
The next day, Toni said goodbye to meet his family in Ubud, Gianyar. Toni left with a Honda Vario motorcycle, the villa’s operational motorbike.
After that, Toni seemed to disappear and could not be contacted. Michael immediately reported this case to the Karangasem Police Office.
The total loss suffered by this Canadian citizen from the sale of his car and motorcycle that Toni took away was IDR 93 million.
“I also made a post on social media, for anyone who can catch Toni, I will give him IDR 10 million in cash, and if it is possible for me to get my money back, I will share that money with whoever can catch him.” said Michael.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Karangasem Police, Iptu Ida Bagus Purwata Manuaba, said that the police were still investigating the case.
“The victim reported to the police station on Monday the 31st of July 2023. So far we have examined three witnesses. We will also continue to investigate and hopefully we can catch the suspect as soon as possible,” said Manuaba.
