Halloween decorations have transformed part of the pedestrian walkway along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Central Jakarta into a free photo spot ahead of the celebration on 31 October.
Stretching approximately 100 metres, the decorated area features a variety of Halloween-themed ornaments, including pumpkin-shaped lanterns, skulls, hanging ghost figures, monsters and a werewolf. The display also incorporates Indonesian folklore-inspired figures, such as the kuntilanak, adding a local touch to the seasonal decorations.
Combined with decorative lighting, the installations have attracted the attention of pedestrians and people passing through the busy business district, particularly in the evening.
Halloween Displays Attract Passersby
The decorations have become a popular stopping point for office workers heading home, residents exploring the area and people exercising along the Sudirman pedestrian walkway.
Many visitors have been seen taking selfies and photographs with the displays as their backdrop. Others have paused to admire the decorations before continuing their journeys.
Irfan, a local resident, said the werewolf figure stood out because of its distinctive details, making it an appealing backdrop for photographs. The hanging ghost decorations also add a combination of spooky and playful elements to the display.
The installations offer pedestrians an opportunity to enjoy a Halloween-themed attraction without having to visit a ticketed event or entertainment venue.
Free Decorations Open to the Public
The Halloween decorations were provided by the management of a hotel in the Sudirman area and are free for the public to enjoy.
The display brings a seasonal attraction to one of Jakarta’s main business districts, where pedestrian areas are used daily by commuters, residents and people exercising outdoors.
Halloween is celebrated annually on 31 October. Its origins are commonly associated with Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival marking the transition from the harvest season to winter. Over time, Halloween developed into a celebration featuring costumes, carved pumpkins and decorations inspired by ghosts, monsters and other supernatural figures.
Today, Halloween-themed displays have become a familiar feature in public spaces, shopping centres and entertainment venues in many countries.
Visitors to the Sudirman walkway can take photographs and enjoy the decorations while passing through the area. However, they are encouraged to remain considerate of other pedestrians and avoid blocking the path, particularly during busy commuting hours.
With its mix of familiar Halloween symbols and Indonesian folklore, the installation offers a seasonal photo opportunity for people spending time in Central Jakarta ahead of the 31 October celebration.
