Viral Video Captures Motorcyclist’s Split-Second Escape as Truck Loses Control in Indonesia

A dramatic traffic accident in Sukabumi Regency has gone viral after a video captured the moment a motorcyclist narrowly escaped being crushed by an out-of-control truck.

The incident occurred at the Babakan U-turn on the Southern Ring Road in Cisaat District, Sukabumi Regency, at around 3 pm WIB on Wednesday (22 July).

Footage circulating on social media shows the truck suddenly swerving towards a motorcyclist waiting to make a U-turn. In a matter of seconds, the rider abandoned the motorcycle and ran to safety before the heavy vehicle crashed into the spot where they had been waiting moments earlier.

The truck continued across the road, striking roadside stalls and another vehicle before coming to a stop in a ditch. The video quickly garnered attention online, with many social media users attributing the rider’s swift reaction as the reason they survived the incident without serious injury.

According to the Sukabumi City Police Traffic Unit, the accident involved an Isuzu Giga tronton dump truck driven by a man identified by his initials DT. The truck was travelling from the Cibolang direction towards Warudoyong when the crash happened.

Police Investigate Cause of the Crash

Head of the Law Enforcement Unit of the Sukabumi City Police Traffic Unit, First Inspector Indra Lesmana, said preliminary findings suggest the driver lost control after attempting to avoid a motorcycle while travelling at high speed.

“Based on the results of the scene investigation, the driver is suspected of being careless, failing to concentrate and travelling at high speed,” Indra said, as quoted from MediaAksara.

He explained that the truck veered to the right side of the road before colliding with a Honda Tiger motorcycle, which had been stationary at the U-turn.

“The truck then veered onto the right side of the road and struck a Honda Tiger motorcycle driven by IAR, who was stopped at the U-turn while waiting to turn around,” he said.

After hitting the motorcycle, the truck crossed the central reservation into the opposite carriageway. It then crashed into two roadside food stalls owned by residents identified as TR and ST, before striking a parked Daihatsu Xenia belonging to ES. The truck eventually came to rest in a roadside ditch.

The collision caused substantial damage to the motorcycle, the minibus and both food stalls.

The truck driver sustained injuries and was taken to Betha Medika Cisaat Hospital for treatment. No fatalities have been reported.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the truck’s speed and the driver’s actions leading up to the incident.

Meanwhile, the viral video has sparked discussion online about road safety and the importance of staying alert, particularly around large commercial vehicles. Many viewers expressed relief that the motorcyclist managed to react quickly enough to avoid being trapped beneath the truck.

The Sukabumi City Police Traffic Unit has urged motorists to remain cautious while driving and reminded heavy vehicle operators to maintain safe speeds and stay focused behind the wheel to help prevent similar incidents.
