A British national, identified by initial DJR (male, 53), has died in a detention room at the Depok Immigration Office.

The death of a British national at the Depok Immigration Office has been confirmed by AKP Made Budi, Head of Public Relations at the Depok Metro Police. “Yes, that’s correct; we will provide the details later,” said Made, as quoted from Tempo.

According to Inilah.com, The Head of the Depok Immigration Office, Irvan Triansyah, stated on Wednesday that DJR was found unconscious by officers.

The individual had previously been detained on 20 April 2026 for further immigration checks related to an alleged violation of his residence permit.

“On Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at approximately 15:45 WIB, officers received a report raising concerns about the condition of a detainee inside the detention centre’s bathroom.

Officers carried out an initial check but received no response. To ascertain the individual’s condition, they immediately forced open the bathroom door.

Once the door was opened, the detainee was found unconscious. Officers promptly coordinated with the police and healthcare services for further assistance.

Based on the findings of the police investigation, the individual was confirmed to have died. The situation was handled professionally, transparently, and with due care.”

In connection with the incident, Irvan also expressed his deepest condolences.

“We extend our sincere condolences on the passing of DJR. We are committed to handling this matter professionally and responsibly,” he said.

The Immigration Department is currently coordinating with the police, the British Embassy, and the individual’s family in Indonesia, and will continue to do so to ensure effective communication and appropriate follow-up actions.
