A foreigner identified as TD, 49, has been detained by immigration authorities in Denpasar, Bali, following a viral incident involving an alleged threat against a local resident. Authorities confirmed that TD is a British citizen, although he had previously been reported as Australian.

The Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office stated that TD had overstayed his permit. Officials are now investigating his activities during his time in Indonesia.

Head of the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office, R. Haryo Sakti, said the office would take firm action against violations. “We follow up on every report from the public. We have zero tolerance for foreign nationals who violate regulations or disrupt public order,” he said in a statement on Saturday, 18 April 2026.

The case came to public attention after reports circulated widely on social media. Following the report, the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team conducted an operation on Friday, 17 April, targeting TD’s residence near Jalan Tukad Unda in Denpasar.

Officers Face Resistance During Arrest

Immigration officers coordinated with the South Denpasar Police during the enforcement process. Upon arrival at the location, TD was described as uncooperative and resisted officers.

Further checks showed that TD had been registered as a holder of a Limited Stay Permit. However, the permit had expired, confirming an immigration violation.

TD is currently being held at the Denpasar Class I TPI Immigration Office. Authorities are continuing their investigation into both the immigration breach and the alleged intimidation reported by local residents.

Officials also highlighted the role of the public in reporting incidents, particularly in areas with a high number of foreign visitors such as Denpasar.

Police Investigate Alleged Assault Case

Separately, police are investigating an alleged assault involving TD and a local resident identified as DI, 56. The incident reportedly took place at the victim’s home on Jalan Tukad Unda IV, Panjer Village, South Denpasar.

Head of the South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, First Inspector Azel Arisandi, confirmed that officers had inspected the scene together with immigration authorities.

“Earlier, we inspected the crime scene with Immigration, and it turns out that the reported person also overstayed. He is currently being detained by Immigration,” he said on Friday evening, 17 April 2026 to detikBali.

Azel said that immigration authorities would handle the overstay violation, while the police would focus on the alleged assault.

According to police findings, TD had visited the victim’s home several times since Monday, 13 April. He allegedly entered the property without permission, searched through belongings, and took Rp100,000 from the victim’s wallet.

The situation escalated on Wednesday, 16 April, when TD returned to the house claiming to deliver food. Police said that when the victim opened the door, TD grabbed his legs and threatened to break them, accusing him of stealing a watch.

The victim reported pain in his left leg following the incident. Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged assault.
