Bali was hit by extreme weather on Sunday, February 9, 2025, as strong winds and heavy rain swept across the region, causing significant damage.

Dozens of trees were knocked down, several houses were damaged, and the local electricity network was disrupted. The worst-hit areas were in Jembrana Regency, where powerful winds caused havoc, particularly in the villages of Banjar and Teluklimo Hamlet.

The strong winds that blew through Bali on Sunday afternoon led to extensive damage in various areas, particularly in Gilimanuk Village, located in the Melaya Subdistrict.

According to the Village Head, Ida Bagus Toni, “From the reports I received, house damage due to strong winds occurred in four banjars in Gilimanuk Village.”

The four areas affected were Banjar Asri, Arum, Penginuman, and Asih. Most of the damage involved the roofs of homes, leaving residents to deal with the destruction caused by the intense weather.

In another unfortunate incident, a large tree fell on a cockfighting arena in Bungaya Village, located in the Bebandem District of Karangasem Regency. The tree crushed the arena, resulting in the deaths of three residents who were present at the scene.

The incident occurred on the same day, Sunday, February 9, 2025, and shocked the local community. The Head of the Public Relations Section of the Karangasem Police confirmed that there were a total of nine victims due to the fallen tree.

“The total number of victims is nine people. In details, three people died, two people were seriously injured, and four people were slightly injured,” he explained, as reported by Kompas.

The police quickly secured the area, setting up a police line to ensure safety, while videos of the incident began circulating on social media, showing the fallen tree in the middle of a garden. The fallen tree is now being examined by authorities as part of their investigation into the tragedy.

Power Outages Across Bali

In addition to the physical damage, the strong winds also caused widespread power outages. Trees that were uprooted in several locations fell on electricity poles, disrupting the power supply.

Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho, the General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Bali Distribution Unit, reported that his team had been mobilized to address the situation.

He explained, “Extreme and erratic weather conditions, where rain is accompanied by strong winds, have caused several trees in several places to collapse and fall on electricity poles, resulting in interruption of electricity supply in that location, causing customer outages.”

Crews have been working tirelessly to restore power in the affected areas.
