Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport will become a special terminal for low-cost carriers (LCC). This is part of the reorganisation of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

This aims to parse passenger density to avoid centralising it at one point.

“This is how the future low-cost airports will have different terminals,” said Minister Erick Thohir, as reported by Kompas.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport will relocate some LCC airlines from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, and full-service airlines to Terminal 3.

Later, all LCC airlines operating in Terminal 2 will be moved to Terminal 1, while full-service airlines will be moved to Terminal 3. Batik Air, which has been operating in Terminal 2 since August 2, 2022, will move to Terminal 3.

Not only Terminal 1 will become a special terminal for LCC airlines, Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta Airport will also become a special terminal for Umrah pilgrims. The arrangement of Terminal 2F will begin at the end of January 2025.

Umrah pilgrims departing from Soekarno-Hatta Airport will no longer need to wait for the plane at Terminal 3, but will gradually be moved to Terminal 2F.

The reason for moving LCC flights to Terminal 1

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Indosia or InJourney Airports, Faik Fahmi, further explained the reasons for transferring LCC flights to Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

He said that this terminal rearrangement also optimises the function of each terminal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

According to Faik Fahmi, LCC airlines that have been operating in Terminal 2 will be moved to Terminal 1. Meanwhile, full-service airlines, such as Batik Air, which previously operated in Terminal 2, will move to Terminal 3.

“Full service will be in Terminal 3, while Terminal 2F will be specifically for Umrah, and low-cost carriers will be in Terminal 1,” Faik explained.

He added that the arrangement plan will last until 2027. To support this change, Terminal 1 will go through a revitalisation process with progress that has reached 30 per cent.
