From information gathered at the location, the incident began when the victim was on the cliff to enjoy the view with other tourists; suddenly, a big wave appeared and hit the victim’s body until it was swept away by the waves and drowned.

The Indian tourist was finally found floating lifeless in the waters of Sumuh, Nusa Dua. Nusa Penida SAR Standby Unit Coordinator Cakra Negara said the body was discovered by a speed boat that happened to be passing by the location at around 12.10 pm.

Following the discovery, the witnesses immediately reported to the Denpasar SAR Office. Subsequently, a joint SAR team, together with the victim’s family, came to the location to identify the body. “After being confirmed with the victim’s son, it was confirmed that the discovery was indeed his father,” Cakra said, as reported by Kompas.

The victim was on the coastal cliff to enjoy the view

According to information gathered at the location, Cakra Negara revealed that there were high waves at the time of the incident. The Indian citizen was on the cliff to enjoy the view with other tourists.

“Suddenly, a big wave came and hit the victim’s body. As a result, the victim was swept away by the waves and drowned,” explained Cakra.

According to him, the alert unit post immediately mobilized personnel shortly after receiving the information to carry out search efforts.

According to Cakra Negara, the search was carried out in three sorties in accordance with the search and rescue operation plan.

“The waves are quite large at the edge, so we centred the search in the area where the victim fell,” he added.

Tips for Safe Visiting Angel Billabong Beach

When at Broken Beach, you must be careful because the height of the cliff is quite dangerous, and victims often fall due to a lack of caution.

The last few cases mentioned that the main cause was many tourists who wanted to take selfies on the edge of the cliff but were not careful enough and slipped and fell.

Wear Comfortable Shoes

The contours of the cliffs around Angel’s Billabong are quite steep and rocky. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you wear comfortable shoes or sandals while you are here. Comfortable shoes will allow you to move more freely, especially when you have to go down the cliff to get to the pool.

Avoid the Rainy Season

During the rainy season, Angel’s Billabong is often inaccessible due to slippery conditions and larger waves from the sea.

Heavy rainwater can also make the pool murky as it carries mud from the surrounding cliffs. Therefore, visit Angel’s Billabong during the dry season for a better experience.
