Holy Cow! Escape Qurban Cow Brings Jakarta Traffic to a Standstill

On Monday, June 17th, In an unusual turn of events, Indonesian highway officers were forced to close down a section of a toll road in Jakarta to capture a runaway cow. The bovine beast, likely intended for the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, had escaped its transport vehicle and was creating a hazard on the busy highway.

Details regarding the incident are still emerging, reported from TikTok account @chacha_shadien report that the cow bolted from its transport truck earlier afternoon. The animal then proceeded to wander onto the toll road, causing traffic to come to a standstill.

For the safety of both motorists and the animal itself, Indonesian Highway Officers made the decision to close the affected section of the toll road. A team of officers then wrangled the cow and secured it in a safe location.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. The closure caused some temporary delays for commuters, but traffic flow resumed as soon as the cow was safely apprehended.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of the Sacrifice, is a major Islamic holiday celebrated worldwide. Muslims traditionally sacrifice livestock, such as cows and goats, during this time to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael. The meat from the sacrificed animals is then shared with family, friends, and those in need.
