Construction Begins on 182-Meter Outdoor Lift at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida

Kelingking Beach is one of the most eye-catching tourist attractions in Nusa Penida, Bali. This destination is popular because it offers a view of the cliff jutting into the sea with its white sand beach—very enchanting!

Kelingking Beach can be enjoyed from the cliff’s top and towards the beach. However, it isn’t easy to reach the beach from the top.

Because the slope of the cliff is very steep at 70-80 degrees, there is no good road and a makeshift handrail. The distance from the cliff to the beach is 300 meters.

To facilitate tourist access to the beach and also encourage an increase in the number of tourists to the region, several investors in Bali will build an elevator.

The groundbreaking stage for the Kelingking Beach glass outdoor lift project was carried out on July 7, 2023. The glass elevator will be 182 meters high and will be named the Glass Viewing Platform.

As reported by DetikBali, the elevator at Kelingking Beach is installed on a hill directly down to this reddish-white sandy beach. The foreign investor who made the elevator at Kelingking Beach is the same person who made the elevator in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan, China, often referred to as Mount Avatar.

The glass elevator project is a collaboration between Chinese investors, PT BNP (Bina Nusa Properti) as the power of attorney, and Banjar Adat Karang Dawa in Bungamekar Village.

PT BNP Director Komang Suantara said the investment value of the glass outdoor lift construction was around Rp 200 billion.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has expressed his hope that the construction of the elevator will always adhere to applicable regulations, with a strong emphasis on safety, sustainability, cleanliness, and other positive aspects. This commitment to safety ensures that visitors can enjoy the new glass elevator with peace of mind.

“Hopefully, these elements or aspects will be well considered by the Bali regional government and the executor of the construction (glass elevator) on Kelingking Beach. Because we rely on Bali to meet the target of 8.4 million foreign tourist arrivals,” Sandiaga Uno said, as reported in Liputan6 on July 24, 2023.

Other national media outlets state that when going up or down by outdoor lift, visitors can still enjoy the beauty of Kelingking Beach.

Later, visitors can stop every 20 meters to take pictures at the spots that have been provided or just look at the beach with islands jutting into the sea.
