A light aircraft with registration number PK-IFP crashed in the BSD area, South Tangerang, Indonesia. This incident killed three people. The airplane was said to have swerved before finally falling.

The plane crashed at the location around 2:30 pm, Sunday, May 19, 2024. The plane is known to belong to the Indonesia Flying Club.

“It’s not a plane (from the Flight School) in Curug, but the Indonesia Flying Club,” said Ministry of Transportation spokesperson Adita Irawati.

The incident killed three people on board. The three were pilot Capt Pulu Darmawan, co-pilot Capt Suanda, and technician Capt Farid Ahmad.

The Ministry of Transportation is currently collaborating with the police to investigate this fatal case. The Ministry of Transportation stated that the plane that crashed in the Sunburst Field Area of Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) on Sunday was flying from Salakanagara Tanjung Lesung Airport to Pondok Cabe Airport, South Tangerang.

“The plane departed from Tanjung Lesung (Salakanagara) Airport in Banten, originally heading to Pondok Cabe Airport in South Tangerang,” Adita Irawati said, as reported by Antara.

South Tangerang Police Chief AKBP Ibnu Bagus Santoso said the plane’s pilot had sent an emergency signal before it crashed. However, after that, the plane lost contact.

“There was information asking for help ‘mayday, mayday after that contact was lost,” said Ibnu.

For information, ‘Mayday’ is an aviation term that indicates the plane is experiencing a dangerous situation.

Ibnu revealed that the unfortunate incident occurred when the BSD area was experiencing heavy rain. However, it is still being determined whether the weather was one of the factors that caused the plane to crash.

“We can’t say that, but it was raining heavily at 2 pm,” said Ibnu.

When the plane crashed, one of the victims was found lying outside the plane, while the other two were trapped in the fuselage. The three victims were then evacuated to Kramat Jati Police Hospital.

The head of the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, Brigadier General Hariyanto, revealed that there were no burns on the three bodies. He said the three bodies suffered injuries due to a hard impact.

“There are no burns, but only very hard impact wounds,” Hariyanto said.
