During April 2024, Bromo tourism will be temporarily closed for four days, specifically on April 4-5 and April 25-26, for cleaning purposes in the Bromo area. This closure is outlined in Letter Number: PG.3/T.8/BIDTEK/KSA.5.1/B/03/2024, as disclosed in a post on the BB TNBTS Instagram account on 31st March 2024.

“This serves as a collective responsibility involving various sectors of society, including management, local government, local communities, and tourism service providers in the Bromo area,” stated the upload.

“We understand that educating visitors to refrain from littering in conservation areas is challenging. Therefore, there will be brief closures before and after the Eid al-Fitr holiday to safeguard the ecosystem of the Bromo Area,” it further elaborated.

The decision to close the area for cleaning was reached through a coordination meeting involving stakeholders. Septi Eka Wardhani, the Head of Administration at the TNBTS Center in Malang City, East Java, stated that the Bromo area would be closed twice in April 2024.

“The closure was based on a mutual agreement reached during a coordination meeting held on 28th March 2024,” Septi explained. Besides deploying TNBTS Center personnel, the area cleaning activity also enlisted the participation of other local stakeholders such as community members, jeep associations, street vendors (PKL), and others.

According to records from the TNBTS Center, the total number of tourist visits to one of East Java’s primary tourist destinations in 2023 is expected to reach 368,507 individuals, encompassing both domestic and foreign tourists. Of this figure, 355,297 visitors are domestic tourists, while 13,210 are foreign tourists. These visits also contributed to Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) amounting to IDR 14.70 billion.

Furthermore, access to Mount Bromo tourism from the Probolinggo Regency area will be closed starting from the Cemorolawang entrance. Similarly, access from the Dingklik area in the Pasuruan Regency direction will also be closed.
