In 2024, Serangan Island is set to become a prominent attraction in Bali. Denpasar Bali’s government plans substantial revitalization, allocating a budget of IDR 23 billion. These funds have been secured through various budget sources, encompassing Regional and City Government Expenditure Budgets, as well as Special Fund Allocations from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

Of the initial budget, IDR 5 billion has received approval for immediate allocation towards constructing a jogging track along the island’s beach in 2024. This update was directly communicated by Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa, Deputy Mayor of Denpasar.
Additionally, the government aims to engage 200 Serangan Island residents in culinary training sessions with chefs from the Institute of Tourism and International Business Campus (14/12/2023). From 11th to 15th December 2023, traditional Balinese cooking classes commenced, aiming to enhance the culinary allure of tourist destinations on Serangan Island.
The Bali government recognizes the island’s vast potential for growth, highlighted by its rich marine biodiversity and the dominant Bugis tribe within the local population, promising a unique addition to Bali’s tourism landscape.
A Glimpse of Serangan Island
Serangan Island, part of Bali’s South Denpasar region, sits just 500 meters from the city centre, spanning 2.9 kilometres in length and 1 kilometre in width. This island, managed by PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID) since its reclamation in 1997, covers an expansive 365 hectares. Serangan village tourism offers a range of activities for visitors:

- Serangan’s Turtle Conservation
- Sakenan Temple
- Water-based activity
While lesser-known among tourists, Serangan Island gained renewed attention following its inclusion in the G20 Bali Summit agenda in 2022.
