Ngurah Rai Airport’s Auto Gate will be Ready to Use by the End of Year For Easier Immigration Access

Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Anggiat Napitupulu, said the Immigration’s auto gate at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is targeted to be completed and ready to be installed in December 2023. Sixty autogate units will be operated at the largest airport in Bali by the end of the year.

Auto gate is an immigration check facility through an automatic crossing gate for all foreigners or Indonesian citizens entering or leaving Indonesian territory. To be able to pass through the auto gate, foreign nationals or Indonesian citizens who wish to use the auto gate are required to scan their passports and fingerprints available on the device.

“Foreigners can later just swap their passports right away, and I think that can reduce the buildup of passengers when flights are arriving at the same time,” said Head of the Bali Regional Office for Law and Human Rights Anggiat Napitupulu, Monday, August 21, 2023.

Anggiat added that with this automatic gate, foreign nationals holding permanent and temporary residence permits no longer have to deal directly with officers. “In response to the dynamics of foreign tourists entering Bali, the need for an auto gate cannot be denied any longer,” said Anggiat.

According to a report from the Denpasar regional government, foreign tourists visiting Bali have now reached 18 thousand people per day, making the urgency of installing autogates at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport even higher.

“We are still in transition, and now we have 18 thousand people per day with the condition of tourism in Bali that has not fully recovered. This is quite a significant change, which is beyond our expectations,” explained Anggiat.
