An Australian tourist in Bali who bravely entered a burning building wearing just his shorts has appeared at a news conference while idly sipping beer. Six Australian tourists were in Bali on Saturday, 6th of May 2023, when a fire on the island’s west coast threatened to destroy the buildings on Bali’s market. They leapt to the rescue.

As the Legian building blazed up, 30-year-old Australian tourist Jack Bach was one of the handfuls of Australian tourists who assisted in saving the possessions of people who lived there. “We saw the Balinese ladies and children crying, and they were about to lose all their stuff, so we thought we better do what we can,” Bach told the journalists on Monday, 8th of May 2023, while holding a beer in his hand.

The fire, that have been started by a wiring issue, ultimately endangered a neighbouring art gallery. Before firefighters arrived, residents are said to have used hoses to contain the fire. While attempting to transfer goods out of the burning facility and minimize damage, The Australian tourist can be seen rushing in and out of it shirtless and in sandals on surveillance footage of the event.

It was “pretty hot,” He told the press as he made the 20 trips to and from the building.

Bach remarked, “We could see the flames; the flames were coming down through here and dropping down, so we were pulling all the stuff away from the fires, and then we were just running it out.”

Nathan Garrard, another Australian tourist, told the media that it was simply “chaos” and that “people were crying and running around everywhere, and fires were coming out of the roof.”

The two had only recently landed in Bali and are now back to enjoying their vacation.
