Known for its beautiful beach, Bali has so many bodies of water that are also worth visiting. From the lake to waterfall, Bali offers so many journeys to foreign tourist and expat that live on the island.

There are five lakes in Bali, all up on the highland. The views are so attractive, with the best lakes in Bali and other attractions that are no less interesting.

Though some still need more tourists and are considered to be hidden gem, this article will discuss the lake from a twin to a Japanese-style lake.

Best Time to Visit The Lakes in Bali

Of course, the best time to visit the lakes in Bali is on dry season, April to October. Bali’s high season lasts from April to August. Tourists begin to increase in March and decrease significantly in autumn. Place like Ubud and Canggu still on tourist favourite list to go, but you can make another itinerary to visit other places on the island.

Hotel prices reflect this trend, peaking in June, July, August, and September. However, tourists recovered in November and December. That means hotel prices during the holiday season are still higher than during other off-season months, even though the rainy season has started.

As with all lakes, being at a reasonably high altitude from sea level, the temperature is colder at night and often foggy during the day. Bringing long-sleeved clothing is recommended, as temperatures are more relaxed than in other parts of the island.

Lake Batur, The Biggest Volcanic Crater Lake

This lake is about 65 meters deep in north Bali, and also an ancient volcano eruption between the feet of Mount Batur and Mount Abang formed this crystal-clear lake.

The lake is surrounded by the high walls of the crater rim, with an active volcano of Mount Batur adjacent to it. You can still see the black lava and the old crater from the last explosion. Batur Lake is the largest lake on the island.

Also, there was the Pura Ulun Danu Temple dedicated to the Goddess of water and fertility, Dewi Danu Lake. Local people believe lake Batur volcano and the temple Ulun Danu is one of the holiest places in Bali. While in Bali, Mother’s temple is Besakih.

You can enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Batur from Kintamani. Across the lake, accessible only by boat is the village of Trunyan, inhabited by the Bali Aga people; it also has a temple of the dead. You can see the entire Lake Batur (Danau Batur) along the main road to Kintamani.

Lake Batur also has hot springs and is popular with tourists. Remember to visit the hot spring named Toya Bungkah.

Lake Tamblingan, Surrounded by Religious Sacral Temples

Lake Tamblingan is one of the most beautiful lakes in Bali, so it is usually used by couples to be married as a place to take pre-wedding photos. The lake is also a great place to look for pictures of the Milky Way at night.

This lake is located on the slopes of Mount Lesung, Munduk Village, Banjar District, Buleleng, Bali. Lake Tamblingan is often referred to as the twin of Lake Buyan.

Interestingly, there are 11 temples around Lake Tamblingan, which add to the beautiful panorama of the lake. Two of these temples are said to be relics of a Hindu kingdom dating back to the 10th century BC.

There is also Pura Ulun Danu Tamblingan. It is a temple located on the shores of Lake Tamblingan, Buleleng, Bali, which serves as a place of worship for fertility and spiritual tourism. This temple is often flooded when the lake overflows, so visitors can rent a pedahu (traditional boat) to get closer to the temple.

The Tamblingan lake is surrounded by natural beauty with lush forests, acres of farmland, and coffee and clove plantations. You can enjoy hiking, trekking in the tropical forest, or fishing and boating around this lake.

Buyan Lake

Lake Buyan is located in Pankasari Village, Sukasada District, Buleleng regency, Bali. Buyan is one of twin lakes formed in a large caldera. It is bordered by two lakes, Lake Tamblingan to the west and Lake Beratan to the east. Lake Buyan is the largest of the three lakes in the Bedugul region.

The lake extends about 4.5 square kilometers just below the northern rim of the Bedugul Caldera.

Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan are lesser-visited in North Bali. These twin lakes are located within the protected Batukaru Nature Reserve and are home to relatively pristine flora and fauna. Uniquely, the Twin Lakes viewpoint is located high up on the slopes of Mount Agung in Bali’s eastern regency of Karangasem.

There is a campground at the southern end of Buyan, and the ground is flat. However, the most common activities are boating or fishing. Hiking and trekking are possible but are best with a local balinese guide who provides scenic countryside views.

Lake Beratan

The lake located in Bedugul. This area is Bali’s central highlands. The region has many breathtaking places and main attractions, such as the abandoned Bedugul Hotel, Bali botanical garden, Tegal Sari Bali Coffee, and Pasar Merta Sari Market.

This lake is a popular tourist attraction, just 1.5 hours away from Kuta, Seminyak, by bike. Once you have arrived, you will feel the fresh air and cold waters from the high altitude and the beautiful lakes of Beratan.

Yeh Malet Lake

In Bali, you can find another beautiful lake, Yeh Malet Lake. This lake also offers a unique view of Japan. Because Yeh Malet Lake is overgrown with water hyacinth, which has purple and white flowers and looks beautiful.

Because of its beauty, the lake, located in Banjar Yeh Malet, Antiga Kelod Village, Manggis District, Karangasem, is one of the Instagrammable spots in Bali.

If you want to explore the lake, you can do that with a boat or a raft, and visitors can go to the middle of the lake and take pictures while enjoying nature’s beauty.

The second stop on Banjar Yeh Malet is the beach. You can also enjoy your visit here by fishing, relaxing, playing beach volleyball, or jogging on this beach. Banyumala Waterfall

Banyumala waterfall is one of the most beautiful bodies of water in North Bali. It is about 37 metres high and surrounded by green cliffs that create a very cool atmosphere.

To get here, you have to trek first. But don’t worry, once you arrive, the view will make you forget your fatigue. The waterfall is magnificent and truly a feast for the eyes!

Below it lies a natural pool frequently used by visitors for swimming, diving, or simply relaxing and enjoying the refreshing mountain water.

This place offers a calm and beautiful atmosphere. There is a natural spring that forms a pool. The pool is 5-6 metres in diameter and about 10 metres deep. The water is blue-green and, of course, very refreshing.

Because it is considered quite deep, the pool can only be used for bathing by people who are skilled swimmers. Meanwhile, 20 metres from the pool, there is another pool that is considered shallow, with a depth of about knee-high for an adult.
