Malaysian Arrested for Illegally Entering Riau

27th October 2022 – A man from Malaysia has been arrested for entering Indonesia without permission. Said man known as Lim Wee Ping was arrested for entering the territory of Riau Province without any valid documents.

The Immigration Office of the Regional Office of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights has taken firm action towards the foreigner.

Lim Wee Ping is in a relationship with a woman from Indonesia who works in a pub in Johor, Malaysia. However, his girlfriend was sent back home to Indonesia in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now that the pandemic is under control, he went to Indonesia to meet his girlfriend through his friend illegally.

He admitted to having paid 2,500 Ringgit through an illegal agency to be able to arrive at Batam, Riau Regency.

The Head of the Immigration Division of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Teodorus Simarmata, said that the suspect Lim Wee Ping and the evidence have been handed over to the Selatpanjang District Attorney’s Office in Meranti Island Regency on Tuesday (25/10).

He emphasized that foreigners who enter Indonesia without permission are not only given deportation but also prohibited to enter Indonesia again.

After an investigation has been carried out by Inteldakim officers at the Selatpanjang Immigration Office, the suspect entered Indonesian territory without going through Immigration Checkpoint and does not have any valid travel documents or visas.

Based on the Immigration Law No.6 of 2011, the suspect Lim Wee Ping was sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 500 million.

The Head of the Regional Office of the Riau Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Muhammad Jahari Sitepu, shows his appreciation to the Selatpanjang Immigration ranks who acted decisively by carrying out judicial proceedings against the foreigner who committed violations in the Indonesian territory.

He hopes that the immigration officers will continue to work optimally to prevent intruders or illegal immigrants to enter and leave Indonesia without passing through checkpoints and completing immigration documents.
