International Flights to Indonesia to Be Added More

29th September 2022 – To increase tourism in Indonesia, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) collaborates with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to add more international flights.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said they constantly coordinate with Kemenhub and international airline companies. There is an indication that international flights will increase immediately as told during The Weekly Brief on Wednesday.

Some of the international airline companies that have agreed to add more international flights are Malaysia Airlines, South Korea’s Jeju Air, Garuda Indonesia, and Air Asia.

Malaysia Airlines will open more flights from Kuala Lumpur to Pekanbaru while Jeju Air will open flights from Manado to South Korea. Then, Garuda Indonesia added more flights from Japan to Bali as much as thrice per week starting from the 22nd of November 2022.

The airline Air Asia will add more flights from Padang to Kuala Lumpur which will take effect in October 2022.

Uno hopes that the addition of international flights to Indonesia will help lower the price of airline tickets. That’s because there will be more quotas for these international flights and Indonesia entering the holiday period.

Furthermore, he said that there had been nearly 3 million airplane ticket reservations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in September 2022. Seeing this phenomenon, he explained the need to prepare other airports to accommodate more flights both on a regional and international scale.

Uno has also previously predicted that the price of plane tickets could gradually decrease by the end of the year during the peak of the season or holiday season. This is a response to the expensive ticket price which, is caused by the increase in jet fuel price and the limited number of flight seats.

On August 2022, he also emphasized that the government will continue to discuss incentives with airlines so that the flight frequency can be increased.
