27th September 2022 – The 266th Anniversary Celebration of the City of Yogyakarta will be held for nine days from October 1 to 9. The Head of Yogyakarta City Tourism Office, Wahyu Hendratmoko, said that this celebration aims for 500 thousand to 1 million tourists to the city.

While he did not provide special tour packages during the celebration, tourism agencies such as the ASITA (Tour and Travel Agent Association) and PHRI (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association) have offered a trip to the city to potential tourists.

From 29th to 30th September 2022, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office plans to promote this 266th Anniversary Celebration to the Pesona Budaya Nusantara event, which has invited 90 potential buyers.

There are 14 series of various types of events for sports, arts, culture, and even for coffee lovers. Not only promoting local tourism, but this celebration will also invite foreign YouTubers or influencers to promote Yogyakarta City tourism on the 6,7 and 8th of October. These YouTubers are from Malaysia, Singapore, and several well-known local influencers will be present.

The Regional Secretary of the City of Yogyakarta, Aman Yuriadijaya, said that the Wayang Jogja Night Carnival will be held once again in connection with the anniversary. He hopes to attract more tourists with the Wayang Jogja Night Carnival as it’s on the event calendar of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

According to Yuriadijaya, the 266th Anniversary of the City of Yogyakarta is a special event as the country is in a pandemic to endemic transition.

“We want the will that’s in the City of Yogyakarta to be the will to show mutual determination. This is part of a situation where we want to bounce back to a normal, conductive situation as it was before the Covid-19 pandemic. This is represented in the Sulih Pulih Luwih theme,” he explained.

The theme is picked from the Javanese language, with Sulih meaning change, Pulih meaning heal and Luwih meaning more.
