Foreigner Deported from Bali After Conflict with Landlord

August 14, 2022 – Bali Immigration deported a Russian-German man who refused to pay his hotel bill. The person with the initials M. AA has dual citizenship, German and Russian, and is presumably a member of the German Army Marine. AA claimed to be a freelance journalist and blogger while being questioned. He has been living in Indonesia since 2021.

After a disagreement over the price of housing with his local landlord, AA was brought to the attention of Bali police and immigration. According to reports, AA (39) declined to pay for his hotel at Sanur in July. According to the agreement, AA believes he is not receiving the accommodations at the hotel. After some heated back and forth, the proprietor of the lodging called the police in the area.

In a desperate attempt to force AA to pay up, the owner called the police because AA would not leave the building. The police detained him and turned him over to Denpasar Immigration, who checked AA’s background.

They discovered that he originally arrived in Indonesia on April 23, 2021, on a 60-day social visa. He arrived in Indonesia via Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta International Airport. His current visa expired on July 19, 2022, thus immigration agents had good reason to deport him.

The Head of the Bali Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Anggiat Napitupulu said that AA was disobeying the law and violating the terms of his visa while working in Bali. According to him, foreigners who apply for residency permits in Indonesia must do so with the intention of benefiting the country, staying for the right reasons, and not jeopardizing public safety or order.

Due to his action, AA was returned to Munich, German at 21.30 WITA. He departed from Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport on KL836 of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He was escorted closely by six Denpasar Immigration Officers through Bali International Airport.
