Viral Video Shows Indonesian Missing Child Remains Cheerful at Police Station

Share:

A video showing a missing child at a police post in Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra, has drawn widespread attention on social media after the girl appeared calm and cheerful instead of frightened.

The video, recorded at the Rantauprapat Police Post, showed the child smiling and behaving confidently while officers tried to identify her family.

Many social media users commented on the girl’s relaxed expression, as children who go missing are often seen crying or distressed.

The child was later identified as Azkiya. Her mother, Rizky Maimunah Sari, shared the chronology of the incident with KumparanMOM and explained how her daughter ended up walking alone to an intersection.

Child Left Home After Wanting to Go to School

Rizky said the incident began when Azkiya asked to accompany her to school. Rizky, who works as a teacher, refused because she was concerned her daughter could disturb the class.

Instead, Rizky suggested that Azkiya accompany her grandmother to the market. She also promised that Azkiya could later be picked up after the school session ended.

However, the arrangement changed unexpectedly. According to Rizky, Azkiya’s grandmother could not go to the market because she needed to attend a condolence visit.

Azkiya then asked her aunt to take her out, but there was no transportation available at the time.

Family members later advised the child to stay at home or play at a neighbour’s house while waiting for her mother to finish teaching.

Rizky said her daughter became upset after her request was not granted.

“It turns out she kept walking all the way to the intersection because she was upset she wasn’t taken,” Rizky said, as quoted by Kumparan on Monday, 4 May.

The child eventually reached a nearby intersection alone before she was found and brought to the police post safely.

Video of the Child Quickly Spread on Social Media

The video recorded at the police post quickly circulated online and attracted public attention because of Azkiya’s behaviour during the incident.

In the footage, she appeared comfortable speaking with adults and did not show signs of panic. Some viewers also noted how confidently she behaved while sitting at the police station.

Rizky explained that her daughter has an active and outgoing personality.

“Azkiya is indeed a very active child,” she said.

She added that her younger daughter is more expressive and assertive compared with her older sibling, who is usually shy.

According to Rizky, Azkiya had never gone missing for such a long distance before. There had only been brief moments in the past when the child was temporarily out of sight.

The family later reunited with the child after the police helped identify her parents.
