A humanoid robot named Jokoprabuwesi has gone viral after CCTV footage appeared to show it experiencing a system malfunction during a trial at an office in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Videos circulating on social media show the robot making a series of unexpected movements, including high kicks and martial arts-style actions, prompting people nearby to move away from the area.

According to posts accompanying the footage, the robot was undergoing a testing phase on its first day of operation when the incident occurred. For reasons that remain unclear, it reportedly became unresponsive to normal controls and began moving erratically, appearing to strike at people standing nearby.

Officers at the scene quickly intervened and secured the area before bringing the robot under control. No serious injuries have been reported.

The cause of the reported system outage has not been confirmed and is said to be under investigation by the relevant authorities.

Social Media Users Respond with Humour

Although the footage initially drew attention because of the robot’s unexpected behaviour, much of the online discussion has centred on humorous interpretations of the incident.

One widely shared social media post jokingly suggested that the robot’s actions were the result of workplace frustration. The netizen wrote, “What do you think? Is this robot having a tantrum because of a 9-to-5 job, or because of a toxic work environment? By the way, he said he was an intern.”

Another post humorously asked, “What does it feel like to be kicked by a robot?”

The comments quickly spread across multiple platforms, with many users responding through memes and jokes rather than expressing concern over the incident.

Viral Footage Attracts International Attention

The video has since attracted international attention, with many viewers amused by the robot’s movements.

Several social media users commented that the humanoid robot appeared unusually expressive, while others joked that it seemed to adopt a martial arts stance before launching into a sequence of kung fu-style movements.

One post describing the footage stated:

“A humanoid robot trial in Jakarta went viral on social media. During the trial, the robot was seen performing kung fu moves while attacking bystanders.”

At the time of writing, there has been no official statement confirming the specific cause of the robot’s reported malfunction. It also remains unclear whether testing of the humanoid robot has resumed following the incident.
