A viral video on Instagram shows the behaviour of a foreigner in Bali who ran away from a cafe without paying for the food and drinks he ordered.

According to the video uploaded by @canggu_bali, the foreigner stood up from his chair and approached the cashier at what was allegedly a cafe in Bali. The foreigner was wearing a beige shirt and a blue hat.

One of the employees standing nearby immediately approached the cashier’s desk as if to see the bill for his order. Before leaving the cafe, the foreigner pretended to be making a phone call.

However, his footsteps moved away from the cashier’s desk. He continued chatting with other people on the phone before slowly exiting the cafe.

When he was outside the cafe, the foreigner seemed to run away immediately and was not recorded on the cafe’s CCTV camera.

The waitress at the cafe seemed suspicious of the stranger’s behaviour on the phone and followed behind, but the waitress seemed to have lost the stranger when he left.

“This guy ran off without paying his bill at @nudebali, if you recognize him, please let us know, any info is appreciated,” wrote the upload on the @canggu_bali account.

Many users commented on the Instagram’s post. Some assume that the foreigner really forgot to pay or forgot to bring a wallet. There are also those who say that the foreigner deliberately ran away.

It’s not the first time a foreigner has run away without paying

Unexpectedly, in the comments column, a salon business account replied that the stranger was also running away without paying in their shop.

The @hair.canggu business account also provides evidence that this blonde-haired foreigner did not pay for the service he received.

In the shared CCTV upload, the foreigner went to the cashier’s desk and touched his pants pocket as if looking for a wallet.

When given the bill, the foreigner looked out as if he wanted to take the wallet but eventually did not return to pay.

“Thank you for sharing, we have a feeling he’s not stopping as he’s clearly very brazen,” wrote account @hair.canggu.

Many social media comments suggested that small businesses in Bali should be aware of him and other similar behaviour of a foreigner in Bali that refuse to pay to cafes and restaurant.

“Put his picture all over Canggu, so all businesses can blacklist him…including Indomaret,” wrote a comment from the @deborawiratno account.

What are your thoughts about this incident? Is it common for foreigners in Bali to refuse to pay and run away? Share your experiences!
