Veddriq Leonardo and Rizki Juniansyah Earn Gold for Indonesia in Rock Climbing and Weightlifting at Paris Olympics

It’s a momentous occasion for Indonesia at the Paris Olympics 2024. Veddriq Leonardo and Rizki Juniansyah’s gold medals have brought an end to a 32-year wait, marking a historic achievement for the Indonesian contingent at the Paris Olympics.

Indonesia immediately won two gold medals on the 14th day of the 2024 Olympics, Thursday, August 8, 2024. After Veddriq won gold in the speed climbing number, Rizki ensured the second gold medal after winning the 73-kilogram men’s weightlifting number.

Indonesia’s triumph in securing two gold medals at the 2024 Olympics is a rare feat, marking the first time in 32 years that the nation has achieved such a significant victory. The last time Indonesia won more than one gold medal at the Olympics was in Barcelona in 1992.

Indonesian rock climbing athlete Veddriq Leonardo won the 2024 Olympic gold. The 27-year-old climber realized a childhood dream.

Competing at Le Bourget Climbing Venue, Paris, Thursday (8/8/2024), Veddriq clashed with Chinese athlete Wu Peng. In the final round, the man from West Kalimantan recorded a time of 4.75 seconds, 0.02 seconds faster than Wu Peng. Indonesia also broke the 2024 Olympic gold medal egg.

Veddriq revealed after the race that he had realized his childhood dream.

“I feel very amazing. This is my dream, and today I realized my dream,” Veddriq said on the Olympic website.

“All Indonesians are proud of this gold medal,” he added.

Rizki Juniansyah, Weightlifting Talented Athlete

Rizki Juniansyah won a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and set a record in the clean-and-jerk force.

Competing at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Friday early morning WIB, Rizki won gold by lifting 354 kg. The details are 155 kg from snatch and 199 kg from clean & jerk.

“I was happy, proud, and very emotional when I won my first gold medal and made history. Thank you to all Indonesian people for their support, to those watching at home,” Rizki was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Rizki Juniansyah’s success in winning the second gold medal for Indonesia made the position of the Red and White team contingent shot from 42nd to 28th place under the Philippines.

Indonesia has August 9d two gold medals and one bronze medal until Friday, August 9 2024, early morning.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is now 27th with a collection of two gold medals and two bronze medals.

The United States, with 30 gold medals, still holds the top spot in the standings, followed by China, with 28 gold medals in second place.
