Unidentified Foreigner Found Dead in Bali Water Tank

Residents of Jimbaran, South Kuta, Badung, Bali, were left in shock after the discovery of a foreign national’s body on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. The unidentified foreigner was found dead inside a water tank located on the fourth floor of a boarding house situated on Jalan By Pass Ngurah Rai.

The gruesome discovery was made when the boarding house owner noticed that water was not flowing from the taps. Concerned about the issue, the owner contacted a repairman to inspect the water tank. Upon opening the tank, the repairman initially mistook the body for a mannequin. However, upon closer inspection, he realized it was a human body and immediately informed the boarding house owner.

According to AKP I Ketut Sukadi, Public Relations Officer of the Denpasar Police, the victim was completely naked when found, which led to initial confusion about the nature of the object floating inside the tank.

“Initially the victim’s body was thought to be a doll, after checking again it turned out to be a human body and the repairman immediately informed the owner,” said Denpasar Police Public Relations Section, AKP I Ketut Sukadi, as reported by Tribun-Bali.

Further investigations suggest that the foreigner may have been electrocuted before ending up in the water tank. Denpasar SAR Rescue Team Coordinator, Bayu Arya Wiraga, stated that loose electrical cables connected to the water pump were found dangling inside the tank.

These cables extended from the reservoir on the fourth floor of the boarding house, named Pondok Ayanakhu.

Authorities believe that the victim climbed the stairs from the bottom floor to the fourth floor, as the stairs are located outside the building and can be accessed by anyone. However, it remains unclear why the individual entered the tank in the first place.

So far, the victim’s identity remains unknown. Neither the boarding house owner nor any of the tenants have reported anyone missing or seen someone climbing into the water tank. The police are still coordinating efforts to determine who the deceased was and the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

Physical Characteristics of the Victim

The victim’s body has been evacuated and transferred to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital for further examination. Based on physical characteristics, authorities suspect the deceased was a foreign national.

The individual had brownish-curly hair, fair skin, and a height of approximately 180 centimetres. The body appeared to have a slim to average build rather than a particularly muscular physique.

Investigators found no accessories or jewellery on the unidentified foreigner. However, some pieces of clothing were discovered near the water tank, which is believed to have belonged to the deceased.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to help identify the victim and uncover the events that led to this tragic incident.
