Seluan Island officially became a new district in the Archipelago Province of Riau at the Natuna Regency, after it was inaugurated by the Natuna Regent together with the Chair of the local DPRD.

“Of course, this division can be registered because of the support from the people of Seluan Island,” said Natuna Regent Wan Siswandi, at the Seluan Island Preparatory District Office.

He explained the Seluan people’s struggle to make the area a district quite long because Seluan Island only has two villages with fewer than a thousand people.

This is based on the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) Number 100.1-1-6117, The year 2022 concerning the Granting and Updating of Codes, Administrative Area Data Reign and Islands on December 9, 2022, and 9:03 p.m. 24 are coded Seluan Island District.

“The long process of dividing Seluan Island District, starting from 2018, thank God realized, and this is our joint task to fill in the construction,” said the Regent Siswandi.

He also hopes that being inaugurated as a district will not only shorten its administrative affairs but also improve the community’s economy. “It can boost the economy by exploiting existing potential, such as cloves,” said Regent Siswandi.

The inauguration was carried out by beating Gong and signing the document by the Natuna regent, a sign that Seluah Island had officially become a District.
