A Russian tourist has been arrested for stealing a motorcycle to use during a New Year’s Eve outing in Bali.

The suspect, identified by the initials VS, was apprehended by Denpasar Police at a villa in the Ungasan area of South Kuta, Badung. He is accused of stealing a motorcycle at Honey Moon Beach in Jimbaran, Badung, Bali.

The motorcycle’s owner had left the vehicle with the key in the ignition while taking a selfie just 10 meters from where the bike was parked. Upon returning, the owner discovered the motorcycle was missing.

Denpasar Police Chief, Kombes Wisnu Prabowo, stated that during interrogation, the suspect admitted steals motorcycle because he needed a vehicle to travel during the New Year holiday.

“As he had no vehicle, he used it daily for about three days, as he had been in Bali for some time,” Wisnu said during a year-end press conference at the South Denpasar Police, as reported by Detik.

Wisnu further explained that the Russian tourist had stolen another motorcycle on one of the beaches in Ungasan after noticing that the key had been left attached.

“At that time, the owner of the motorbike had stepped away to take a photo, and when he returned, the bike was gone. The suspect was later arrested at a boarding house in South Kuta,” Wisnu added.

The suspect VS, who steals motorcycle, is currently undergoing intensive questioning and faces charges under Article 363 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
