Recommended Areas to Live in Jakarta – Jakarta surprisingly has a lot of recommended areas to live in regarding housing. The rental prices are varied and quite affordable with the facilities offered. As you are new to the city, you should find out which area is the best for you to live in. This mainly depends on the area where you work, your needs and what type of living accommodation you want.

Through this article we basically suggest to you some areas that provide a house or apartment, compound our stand-alone house. As you read our previous article here, now we will try to explain more about the area!

Kemang – an international laid-back village in South Jakarta

The reason why Kemang is known that way is because you can find a big choice of restaurants, cafes, bars, and supermarkets here. Besides, Kemang has a lot of choices from apartments, and houses, to compounds, like Kemang Dalam for example. This area is the right choice if you want to live in spacious houses with gardens with quiet laid-back neighborhoods.

You also can find some international schools like Australian Independent School (AIS), Academic Colleges Group (ACG), and New Zealand Intercultural School (NZIS). Some suggested apartments in this area are Kemang Village Residences and Apartment Nirvana Kemang.

The downside about this area is the traffic, especially during the weekend since Kemang is popular with its various nightlife spot.

Pondok Indah – wonderful residential area

If you love a big house with classic elegant style on a wide street, Pondok Indah may be your number one choice. This area is suitable for those who are married and need a spacious place to live. Additionally, this area is close to Jakarta International School (JIS) too.

Shopping wise you will find everything you need at Pondok Indah Mall and spend your weekend playing golf at Pondok Indah Golf Course. Pondok Indah Residence and Pondok Indah Golf Apartment (PIGA) are some apartments we suggest.

Kebayoran Baru – the best suburban area with parks and gardens

If you are working in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), Kebayoran Baru is a good option for you to live. One thing that you need to consider is due to its location in the middle of the city, this living cost tends to be more expensive.

Kebayoran Baru has a lot of luxurious houses in Sriwijaya area compared to Pondok Indah and some older houses with big lush gardens. Some upscale apartments that are popular among expats are Pacific Place Residence, Pakubuwono Residence, Pakubuwono Signature, Pakubuwono View, and 1 Park Residence. This area is also close to Senopati which is well-known for its restaurants and nightlife.

Cipete – great location with good access

Cipete has been known as an expat area over the last decades. This area has good access to the highway roads or flyovers to the business areas like Kuningan, Sudirman, and Senayan. Besides that, Cipete has an MRT station and this area is close to French International School Jakarta. The downside of this area is some of the streets are narrow and difficult to navigate.

You can consider Veranda Private Villas if you love a compound house and find many freestanding houses around Cipete suitable for expats with cheaper rent than Kemang.

Cilandak – good option for better value for money

If you try to save money and don’t want to compromise on the size and quality of your housing area, Cilandak might be a good option. Cilandak has mostly stand-alone houses and compounds such as; Executive Paradise / Astoria which is close to British School (BSJ) and JIS, and Nord Anglia School (NAS). Cilandak Tengah II compound of Lembong or Atmaya Compound for high end choice.

Some houses in Cilandak were built in some tropical style, some classic elegance with beautifully landscaped gardens.

Senayan – a living choice for skyscraper lover

If you need to reach any place located in the business district then the Senayan area is a good option for you.  But living in Senayan usually means staying in an upscale apartment based on the density of skyscrapers in this area. Plaza Senayan Apartment and Senayan City Apartment are some places that might you consider. Despite the dense skyscrapers here, you can find quite some green space on offer around the big sports stadium, Gelora Bung Karno which is located in the heart of this area.

Menteng – home for the elite of Indonesia

On the plus side of this area, you can find some embassies in this upscale neighborhood. But with most of the international schools moving further south or even out of the city, the expat families lost their interest in live in Menteng for a while. But still, we suggest this area for accessibility to the business district and some important places in Jakarta.

Other than the freestanding houses, you might consider Kempinski Apartment, a luxury apartment adjacent to Grand Indonesia and across the road from Plaza Indonesia which is a high-end mall.

Kuningan – living in the middle of the hustle

Kuningan is actually one of Jakarta’s business centers and a lot of the office, financial, and diplomatic establishments are located in this area. Living in this area means business, lifestyle, and entertainment in one go.

This area is suitable for those who want to live close to work and enjoy the nightlife. Verde 1 and Verde 2, Skygarden Apartment, or Anandamaya Apartment might be some apartment choices, but you can find some mid-range apartments in Mega Kuningan area.

BSD – a potential suburbia

BSD stands for Bumi Serpong Damai and is located in South Tangerang. Though is not part of Jakarta, this place is suitable for those who work in several economic hubs such as Taman Tekno.

This area has more benefits, especially for families with children. The rental prices are significantly lower with many compound house choices, green spots, and less traffic. The German School Jakarta, as well as the British School Jakarta, are located near this area too.
