The government has officially designated MRT Jakarta as a Vital Transportation Object in the Railway Sector.

This determination is stated in the Decree of the Director General of Railways Number KP-DJKA 38 of 2023 dated 10 February 2023.

Director of Operations and Maintenance of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Muhammad Effendi explained, with the issuance of this decision, all lines, stations, depot areas and supporting facilities for MRT Jakarta are nationally vital objects.

This means that security for the Jakarta MRT is carried out based on the provisions in the laws and regulations regarding railways and guidelines for safeguarding national vital objects.

“This status also states that the implementation of security is carried out based on the principle of internal security and provisions in laws and regulations regarding railways and guidelines for safeguarding national vital objects,” he explained in an official statement quoted from the MRT Jakarta website, Thursday, 16th of February 2023.

MRT Jakarta is the first modern urban rail system in Indonesia. Its presence is considered to have a large economic and social impact on the state and society.

That is, the Jakarta MRT is no longer just a mode of transportation, but rather a catalyst for changing the culture and face of the city through the development of transit-oriented areas around the station.

Therefore, its designation as one of the national vital objects will provide security certainty in carrying out its function as a modern urban railway system in Indonesia.

“With this stipulation, PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) will continue to establish solid cooperation with the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces in determining the configuration of security standards, both the strength of the personnel and the security infrastructure,” he concluded.
