Mariah Carey Arrives in Jakarta with Ondel-Ondel Welcome

Singer Mariah Carey has arrived in Jakarta ahead of her highly anticipated concert. The pop diva touched down on Thursday (2 October 2025) and was greeted in a uniquely local way through a performance of Betawi Ondel-Ondel complete with traditional dance movements.

The warm cultural welcome was arranged by the promoter, Color Asia Live. Managing Director David Ananda explained the idea behind the reception.

“We are proud to welcome Mariah Carey to Jakarta with the regional cultural icon, the Ondel-Ondel Betawi,” he said.

Clips posted on the promoter’s official Instagram, @colorasialive, show Carey stepping out in a fitted black dress and matching heels. Surrounded by her entourage and bodyguards, the “We Belong Together” singer paused to enjoy the performance.

At one point, her staff clearly caught up in the festive moment joined in with a few dance steps to the Betawi rhythms.

Carey’s appearance in Jakarta forms part of her global The Celebration of Mimi tour. Fans, known affectionately as the Lambily, have been counting down for months.

The concert will be held on Saturday, 4 October, at 7:15 PM WIB at the Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), West Java.

Concert Preview and Song Predictions

Excitement has been building since tickets went on sale in June. Sales were so strong that Silver category seats sold out immediately, prompting organisers to release additional tickets to meet demand.

Opening the Jakarta concert will be Boyzlife, Keith Duffy of Boyzone and Brian McFadden of Westlife, who bring their own catalogue of ‘90s pop nostalgia. Their set is expected to set the mood before Carey takes the stage.

While the official setlist remains under wraps, predictions among fans point to a mix of classics and crowd-pleasers. The show is likely to open with Vision of Love, Emotions, and Make It Happen. Hits that launched Carey’s career.

The set may then glide into mid-’90s favourites including Dreamlover, Hero, and her stirring rendition of Without You. Later highlights could include Fantasy and Always Be My Baby, songs that continue to define her status as a chart icon.

The Jakarta concert will not just be a trip down memory lane. For many in Indonesia, this is a rare chance to see the singer known as the Songbird Supreme performing live. With her signature whistle notes and extensive back catalogue, Carey remains a symbol of how timeless pop music can be.

For the Lambily, Saturday promises to be a night where nostalgia and global stardom meet.
