Jakarta Residents Required to Reprint ID Cards Amid Capital Status Change Starting 2024

Share:

Starting in 2024, Jakarta residents are required to update their ID cards (E-KTP) to reflect the change from the Special Capital Region (DKI) to the Special Jakarta Region (DKJ).

Budi Awaluddin, the Head of Jakarta’s Civil Registry Service Office, mentioned, “In 2024, Jakarta’s status will transition from Special Capital Region (DKI) to Jakarta Special Region (DKJ). Therefore, all e-KTP holders will need to obtain new prints.” The updates to ID cards for Jakarta residents will occur gradually throughout 2024, based on the availability of card blanks.

The discussions about the DKJ Bill are currently in progress at the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to Jakarta’s Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, this process is expected to conclude before December 2023.

For 2024, the Jakarta Government is set to prepare approximately 8 million blanks. The relocation of Indonesia’s capital to the Nusantara (IKN) in 2024 will undoubtedly lead to significant changes in both the national government system and the city of Jakarta.
