The Jakarta Provincial Government collected IDR 3.6 billion in public donations for disaster victims in Sumatra during the New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations. The funds were raised through a series of events held across the capital.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the donations were recorded as of 1:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) on Thursday, 1 January 2026. He confirmed that the funds came entirely from public participation.

“This is a contribution from the Jakarta public, and we express our deepest gratitude for the concern shown,” Pramono said, as reported by Detiknews.

The governor said the Jakarta Provincial Government encouraged residents to show solidarity with communities affected by disasters in Sumatra. Public participation was facilitated through donation channels provided during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Pramono said donations were collected from people attending celebrations at various locations throughout Jakarta. The initiative was part of the provincial government’s effort to combine public festivities with humanitarian support.

On New Year’s Eve, the Jakarta Provincial Government organised a large public celebration at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Central Jakarta. Unlike previous years, the event did not feature fireworks.

Instead, the celebration included a drone display with the themes “Jakarta Global City: From Jakarta with Love” and “Jakarta for Sumatra.” The display was intended to convey messages of solidarity and support for disaster-affected communities.

Pramono said the donation drive was linked to the New Year’s Eve programme and would close once the celebrations ended.

“Because this is related to welcoming the New Year, and the events are expected to end at 1 a.m., donations will also be closed,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Aid Distribution to Be Managed with National Zakat Agency

The Jakarta Provincial Government said the distribution of donations will be carried out in collaboration with the National Zakat Agency (Baznas). The governor said this mechanism was selected to ensure proper coordination and accountability.

According to Pramono, Baznas has experience in managing and distributing humanitarian aid to disaster-affected areas.

“The Jakarta Provincial Government will coordinate with Baznas and Bazis,” he said.

He added that cooperation with Baznas aims to ensure that assistance reaches affected residents in a targeted and organised manner.

Pramono said the Jakarta Provincial Government would begin distributing the donations shortly after the New Year’s Eve events concluded. He confirmed that all funds raised would be allocated for disaster response efforts in Sumatra.

He also emphasised that this was not the first time Jakarta had provided assistance to disaster victims in the region.

“The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to continuing to provide assistance,” Pramono said.

In addition to financial donations, the Jakarta Provincial Government is also sending logistical support. Pramono said the government is working with PAM Jaya to deploy mobile clean water treatment plants and water tankers to affected areas.

He said the assistance would begin to be distributed starting Thursday morning.

Pramono previously reiterated that the IDR 3.6 billion figure reflected donations collected from a series of New Year’s Eve events across the capital.
