Striker Jens Raven scored Indonesia’s winning goal in the 18th minute. The goal was born from a corner-kick situation. Midfielder Muhammad Kafiatur executed the corner kick, which was received by defender Kadek Arel Priyatna and passed to Raven for the goal.

This was Raven’s fourth goal in the 19th edition of the tournament. The naturalized striker is one goal adrift of top scorer Jake Najdovski (Australia). Raven’s four goals are the same as those of Pavithran Gunalan (Malaysia).

Until the first half match ended, no additional goals were created. Indonesia took a 1-0 lead over Thailand in the first half.

In the second half, the Thai national team began to fight back. In the 90+2nd minute, the referee made a controversial decision after Thai player Jhetsaphat Kuanantanom slammed the ball after a foul on Arlyansyah but did not get a yellow card.

This encouraging news came during the month of sport, aka the Olympics. Although the Indonesian national team failed to qualify for the Olympics, the U-19 team’s victory is an exciting news.

This is Indonesia’s second trophy after winning the 2013 edition. Eleven years ago, Indonesia won on penalties 7-6 over Vietnam at Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo, East Java.

In addition, two other individual awards at the 2024 AFF U19 Cup, namely the best player and best goalkeeper, flew into the arms of Garuda Nusantara players. The captain of the U19 Indonesia national team, Dony Tri Pamungkas, is entitled to the best player trophy of the 2024 AFF U19 Cup tournament.

On the other hand, Ikram Algiffari, who always kept a clean sheet in the semifinal and final matches, was awarded the title of best goalkeeper.

AFF U-19 Championship Cup victory celebration

The victory of Garuda Muda, the nickname for the U-19 national team, was also celebrated by the people of Indonesia. In various viral videos, supporters celebrated the victory in the capital’s streets.

President Joko Widodo congratulated the Indonesian U-19 (Garuda Muda) national team for winning the AFF U-19 Championship after defeating the Thai national team 1-0.

“Congratulations to Garuda Muda for the extraordinary achievement of winning the AFF U-19 Cup title,” Jokowi tweeted via his X @jokowi account on Tuesday (July 30) morning.
