Indonesia National Football Team Creates History by Qualifying for the Asian Cup Last 16 in 2024

History was made by the Indonesia national football team as they secured a spot in the last 16 of the Asian Cup, marking a significant achievement for Indonesian football. This milestone was realized following a 1-1 draw between the Oman and Kyrgyzstan national teams in the concluding match on the evening of Thursday, 25th January 2024.

The outcome of this draw propelled the Garuda Squad, affectionately known as the Indonesia national football team, directly into the last 16 of the Asian Cup. Since the inception of the Asian Cup in 1996, Indonesia has consistently been halted in the group phase.

Official announcements for the last 16 draws of the Asian Cup were disclosed on January 25, 2024. Indonesia is set to face off against the Australian national football team at 6:30 PM local time on Sunday, 28th January 2024.

The Asian Cup, a football competition overseen by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), has a history spanning over 65 years. Teams that successfully earn qualification for the Asian Cup automatically secure a spot in the FIFA Confederations Cup. In the previous edition, Qatar emerged as the victor, earning the opportunity to progress to the FIFA Confederations Cup competition.
