Horror movies are one of Indonesia’s favourite genres. The latest movie schedule in Indonesian theatres includes one unique movie because it is the first Indonesian movie with the theme of exorcism. The title is Kuasa Gelap.

Kuasa Gelap is the first Indonesian movie to tell the story of two Catholic priests who carry out an exorcism to exorcise the devil from a teenage girl.

Produced by Robert Ronny and directed by Bobby Prasetyo, the film features Jerome Kurnia as the priest and will hit theatres on October 3, 2024.

Perhaps because this is the first Indonesian movie with an exorcism theme, the preparation was very meticulous. Actor Jerome Kurnia even researched and learned Latin to play the role of a priest in his new movie, “Kuasa Gelap.”

“In this movie, I play the role of Father Thomas. For this movie, we are directly assisted by the source; there are also various workshops,” Jerome told Antara.

One figure who also stole the show was young actress Lea Ciarachel, who played a teenager named Kayla.

Kayla said this was her first movie. She did the casting when she was 15 and is now 18.

For her role, Lea had to act in a trance, and she admitted that it was difficult because she had never experienced it. In terms of background, she feels quite similar to Kayla, who is still unstable and immature.

The story is played by famous actors like Jerome Kurnia and Lukman Sardi. It focuses on Romo Thomas (Jerome), a priest who has past trauma.

His mother and sister had to die simultaneously in a tragic accident. The incident made Father Thomas begin to doubt his faith in God. He even questioned the purpose of his ministry.

Thomas, who wanted to resign as a priest after losing his mother and sister in a tragic accident, was given the final task of helping Father Rendra (Lukman) perform an exorcism.

Together with Father Rendra, Thomas must perform an exorcism on Kayla (Lea), the best friend of his late sister. Kayla was possessed by the devil while playing jelangkung to summon the spirit of her father.

Not only her but her mother’s life was also threatened by the presence of the demon that possessed Kayla’s body. Because of this phenomenon, Kayla’s mother’s dark past is also revealed.
