Jessica received almost five years of remission. According to the Prisoner Development Assessment System, she got remission because she had shown good behaviour.

Jessica was detained on June 30, 2016, after being caught in the murder case of Article 340 of the Criminal Code. The court sentenced her to 20 years of imprisonment.

Before being paroled on Sunday, August 18, 2024, Jessica had served more than 8 years and 1 month. Meanwhile, Jessica must undergo mandatory reporting until 2032 during the parole period.

As reported by Detikcom, Jessica Kumala Wongso’s attorney, Otto Hasibuan, admitted that he felt shocked upon learning that his client was released earlier than he had anticipated. Otto is grateful for the remission given to his client to speed up the parole process.

For information, this case began in January 2016. At that time, Jessica, Mirna and one of their friend, Hani, had coffee together at Cafe Olivier. Mirna then had a seizure and died after drinking Vietnamese iced coffee.

Jessica came to the cafe earlier than her two friends and made a reservation. After that, Jessica left before returning and ordering Vietnamese iced coffee plus two cocktails.

The server delivered the drinks, and a few minutes later, Mirna arrived with Hani. Mirna drank Vietnamese iced coffee and stated that it tasted bad.

Not long after, Mirna’s body convulsed until she lost consciousness. White foam came out of Mirna’s mouth. She was taken to a clinic in the mall before her husband, Arief Soemarko, arrived and took her to Abdi Waluyo Hospital (RS). However, Mirna did not survive.

The police then investigated this case. After the investigation process and case title, the police named Jessica as a suspect. The police suspected Jessica of killing Mirna by putting cyanide poison in the coffee that Mirna drank, leading them to name her as a suspect.
