Henshin – A Twist of Peruvian and Japanese

Henshin; A Twist of Peruvian and Japanese – Do you still remember the Westin Hotel review that we wrote some time ago? This time we will review one of their most famous restaurants, Henshin. According to their website, “Henshin serves authentic Nikkei cuisine, a bold combination of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine that reflects a rich cultural history and diversity and reinventing traditions since the late 19th century.”

Wow. Interesting.

Okay, first let’s talk about the place. Located on the 68th floor of the Westin hotel, Henshin Restaurant offers an incredibly beautiful city view, especially if you come here late in the evening. The service is also super professional. Just as expected from a fine dining restaurant.

Honestly, when I wanted to eat here, I was a little nervous because there were some split reviews that said this place was really good or even very basic. But I finally stopped by while staying at the Westin just out of curiosity.

While waiting for the menu I ordered, I enjoyed their Dulce Como Miel, it’s actually one of their gin & tonic menus. The gin taste is not too strong, and I can taste a flavour inside it. Very good! For the first menu, I definitely go for their signature Henshin Roll. This roll of sushi is made from unagi, fried shrimp, spicy lump crab, avocado, and ikura.

This sushi has the classic ingredients and imaginative combination of sauce flavours from their fusion sushi specialist. Believe me, this one taste soooooooo good! Definitely 10/10 for me!

Another main course I ordered was the Arroz Con Pato; a slow-roasted duck with Japanese pumpkin. Even though the name is difficult, the roasted duck is very well roasted. It’s not too dry, and the Japanese pumpkin is really delicious! Surprisingly I like this combination.

For the dessert, I ordered their Nikkei Cheese Cake. The thing that makes this cake a downside for me is the fact that the cake has matcha in it. Even though the chantilly is delicious, the thick matcha taste really bothers my mouth. Honestly, the matcha combines perfectly with the cheese, it’s just not my favourite.

Overall, in my honest opinion, the foods themselves are delicious. I think it really depends on what you ordered and what palate you are! This fusion is different from existing Japanese restaurants and the combination of flavours is also very unique! I think it’s because the chef is not Japanese.

If you have spare to splurge and want to experience an extraordinary dining experience, you should try eating at Henshin Restaurant. Actually, I want to try their Acebichado, but maybe next time!
