A French tourist, MF, claimed to Bangli police that she was sexually harassed at a guesthouse in Bali. The victim alleged that she was the target of unwanted approaches by EL, an employee at the guesthouse.

Ngakan Gede Eka Yuana Putra, the head of the criminal investigation unit for the Bangli Police, announced over the weekend that an investigation had been started.

“We have launched an extensive investigation into the matter since the 1st of June, and we are hopeful of quickly identifying the suspect,” Ngakan stated on Saturday, the 3rd of May, 2023.

According to sources, the event occurred on the 30th of May in the late evening when MF slept out in her bed at an intriguing guesthouse in Songan, Kintamani. She was startled awake when she noticed a strange man lying beside her.

The 25-year-old woman said EL harassed and touched her inappropriately after being startled and terrified. MF mustered her strength and bravely fought back to repel him, successfully compelling the guesthouse staff to flee.

Ngakan clarified the situation by outlining the sequence of events which happened to the France tourist.

“MF, the victim, went to her room and fell asleep. After secretly following her at this point, the accused culprit, EL, made his move and harassed MF,” explains Ngakan.

On the 1st of June 2023, MF, the French tourist, instantly informed the Bangli Police of the terrifying experience. The French tourist’s report to the investigators created a gruesome image, implying that she narrowly avoided getting raped and harassed by EL.

Ngakan underlined the significance of gathering strong evidence and witness accounts as the inquiry progresses. The investigators want to know if EL’s improper behaviour constituted an attempted rape, and harassment or whether it would be classified differently.

The police are awaiting the outcome of EL’s medical checkup to move the case further, according to Ngakan. “The alleged harassment perpetrator has been in our custody, been questioned, and has admitted to his deeds,” Ngakan added.

EL admitted to being intoxicated during the event to the police and stated that he, MF, and other homestay guests had been drinking together earlier, which led to his unbelievable behaviour towards the French tourist.
