What’s Trending on Google Indonesia in 2024: From Labubu to Bobby Kertanegara

Google Indonesia has once again released their annual report on what’s trending and catching the attention of Indonesians during 2024.

Through the “Year in Search 2024” and “A Year on YouTube” reports, the search engine giant provides an interesting overview of what interests the public.

According to Google Indonesia, search trends for movies, television shows, and music this year show that Indonesia’s entertainment scene is characterised by enthusiasm for local works.

To illustrate, seven of the top 10 searches in the Song Lyrics and Movie/Serial categories on Google Search feature Indonesian songs and titles.

“We see Indonesia is increasingly loving local, Indonesia is increasingly creative to introduce Indonesian culture to others at home and also abroad,” said Google Indonesia Communications Manager Feliciana Wienathan at the Top Trending Searches Google 2024 event in Jakarta, as quoted from Antara.

In addition, this year Google Search also witnessed the curiosity of Indonesians. Searches such as “What is golput” and “Why did Indonesia qualify for the Asian Cup?” reflect interest in social issues and sports.

Interestingly, many Indonesians conducted searches with the keywords “Bobby Kertanegara whose cat”, “What does khodam mean”, and “Why do we feel pain?”

On the other hand, pop culture also dominated by search trends related to terms such as “red flag” and “mewing”.

Bobby Kertanegara becomes the most searched figure in Google Indonesia

Google Indonesia awarded Bobby Kertanegara, a cat with black and white fur, the Top Trending Searches 2024 for the “Who” category. This award makes Bobby Kertanegara one of Google’s most trending figures throughout 2024.

Bobby Kertanegara also received the award directly, as uploaded to Bobby Kartanegara’s Instagram account. “Alhamdulillah … The keyword ‘Bobby Kertanegara who’ became one of the top trending searches for the ‘Who’ category on Google in Indonesia throughout 2024!” wrote the caption of Bobby Kertanegara’s Instagram upload.

On this occasion, Bobby Kertanegara, who was present with a stroller, did not forget to take pictures with Google Indonesia officials. In addition, Bobby Kertanegara also took a photo with the trophy he got from the Google award.
